Brisbane's Sustainability Crisis

This year's council budget, combined with hidden planning changes, represents the most serious attack on Brisbane’s sustainability in a generation. These dangerous changes to the City Plan will cut 290 hectares from Council’s greenspace commitment by 2036. While parks funding is being cut by more than 50% each year to 2029, and vital parkland is given away for development.

Despite Council’s 2017 commitment to reduce emissions, they continue to rise. Stormwater funding has been slashed by $37 million while development is pushed into high-risk flood zones. Tree canopy data has not been released since the ABC exposed a major city-wide decline.

This is not neglect. It is a calculated erosion of Brisbane’s liveability and resilience. In a climate crisis, Council must strengthen the city’s resilience, not vandalise it. We must hold this Council Administration to account on Brisbane’s sustainability.

Here is some of my advocacy work , including Speeches, Submissions and Articles.
