Question by Councillor Seal Chong Wah, to the Lord Mayor as part of Brisbane City Council Council Meeting, Tues 3rd June 2025

My question is to The Lord Mayor.

Lord Mayor, you have received emails from 624 residents, asking you to keep a rehabilitated Mt Coot-tha Quarry in public hands. We know it is 624 individual emails as this feedback was supported by several local representatives, through setting up an online avenue for residents to easily contact you. We know that those 624 residents who took the time to email you were united in asking that the rehabilitated Quarry be kept as public land and as a public asset.

Lord Mayor, we know hundreds or probably thousands of residents have also used the council consultation process to provide feedback to the council on the future of this 26 hectares of public land.

However, nothing about the outcome of this consultation has ever been published and no information has been made available to the public since it closed in May 2024. In fact, all references to that consultation have been mysteriously erased from the council website!

Lord Mayor, my question through the Chair is, ‘Why has this council administration not made public any of the feedback, or even a summary of the feedback, received from the many hundreds or thousands of residents, on the consultation for the future of the Mt Coot-tha Quarry? ’
