Question to the Lord Mayor
Lord Mayor, Micah Projects have recently released a new report that received some media coverage, showing a 48% increase in recorded child homelessness in Brisbane, in the last financial year alone. More than half of these children are under the age of 4.
There are now more than 2,000 homeless children in this city, being supported in crisis accommodation. There will be many thousands more undocumented living in tents, cars, garages and sleeping on couches.
These are heart-breaking figures.
Why is this council administration allowing more than 2,000 Brisbane children to be homeless!
Lord Mayor, with child homelessness up nearly 50% in a single year, when will your administration stop pretending that homelessness is a State problem, and start using Council’s powers to ensure every child in Brisbane has a safe place to sleep?
