Big Win for Victoria Park Barrambin
Earlier in the year, I supported an application to add additional land at Victoria Park Barrambin into the Queensland heritage register as State heritage place.

here.
We've received notification that the chief executive of the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation has recommended that additional land be added.
"On 16 April 2025 the delegate for the chief executive recommended to the Queensland Heritage Council (Heritage Council) that additional land be entered in the Queensland heritage register as part of the existing State heritage place Victoria Park.
The heritage recommendation relates to the property at 454 Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill and comprises:
Lot 3 Plan SP185072
Lot 4 Plan SP185073
Lot 5 Plan SP185074"
This has now reached the final stage, where the independent Queensland Heritage Council considers this recommendation and makes a decision.
The Heritage Council has until 15 July 2025 to reach a decision.
This will probably be a surprise to the QLD State Government, who are trying to force a mega stadium and swimming arena onto this historic parkland.
The International Olympics Committee should see this recommendation as a clear indication that Victoria Park Barrambin has a high level of cultural and heritage significance.
The State Government and Brisbane City Council Administration will also need to renegotiate the Olympic Host Contract 2032. The contract they’d signed, states that "no permanent Olympic construction occurs in statutory nature, cultural protected areas and World Heritage sites".
Here's my speech where I put this on record in Council Chambers.
A massive thank you Dr Neil Peach, from the Spring Hill Community Group, who had worked tirelessly on this heritage listing application for 2 years.
